Reflecting on “Kill the Buffalo”

My latest song “Kill the Buffalo” has been available in audio format for 2 weeks now. Maybe that isn’t time to reminisce already, but it should be enough time to make some observations.

Almost everybody that I think listened to it said they liked it. That’s awesome. It could just be my imagination, but it seems like my audience has changed a bit over the last year. If anything it has grown, but it’s different.  It concerns me a little, but I’ll roll with it.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that it’s getting next to no plays on streaming services. Decent hits come up on “Pretty Little Ditty,” “XXX 666,” and “Everyone I Know Is an Alcoholic,” but yeah, nothing on “Kill the Buffalo.” Why? I have no effing idea. I mean, it’s easily as good, if not better, than all these other apparently more liked songs in my catalog. Interesting.

Maybe when the music video comes out, it’ll get more traction. Or maybe when it’s bundled along with my next album, it’ll be appreciated a little more. I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. I like it.

Next week, there will probably be a new Jam Session. Be ready.

Kill the Buffalo Single Releasing Soon!

Awwww yeah. That’s right. My new song “Kill the Buffalo” is ready to be heard! If you like your songs heavy, about specific clothing patterns, shortish, and a tad strange, “Kill the Buffalo” is for you!

Creating this song has been quite the experience for me. My goal with these upcoming songs is to pay more attention to certain aspects and less attention to other aspects compared to my older songs. I’ll get into all that stuff in a later post.

Oh, you wanted to know when you’ll be able to listen to “Kill the Buffalo?” Sure, I’ll tell you. The release date is April 28th, 2017. Hey, that’s less than 4 weeks away! Can you believe it?! And if all goes as planned, there will be an accompanying video to go along with it. Then…maybe a full-length album will be imminent…

Fun times. Let’s do this crap.

Random Blog Post #15

Hey, I haven’t posted in a while. “Kill the Buffalo” is very close to being done. I’m trying to get it sound really good, namely the drums and guitars. Previously I had mentioned (I think) that I recorded a bunch of guitar tracks. Normally that means the guitars sound big and awesome. But when you use the same guitar with the same amp and effects, it may sound big, not maybe not so awesome. So I’m going to re-record the guitar a few more times with different guitars and/or effects, so that it will sound big and awesome.

What else am I doing? I don’t know. Hm. I did sift through all the musical projects I’ve started in the last couple of years to see what I have to work with. There are probably 20 good-sounding songs that are basically done except for the vocals. So my plan is to listen to the songs, get inspired, and throw vocals on them. That makes it sound less well-thought-out than it actually will be, but that’s what it’ll amount to in a sense.

So yeah, that’s what’s going on. “Kill the Buffalo” will be out when it’s ready. And then my next album will be out…later this year…maybe?

The Making of “Kill the Buffalo”

Today I am going to talk about what went into creating my newest masterpiece, “Kill the Buffalo.” I’m super excited about it. Sometime last year, I began to notice people at work wearing lumberjack-style shirts. Affectionately called Buffalo Plaid, the design of these now-trendy shirts irked me. Why are all these people wearing such a stereotypically Canadian lumberjack pattern? I mean, it’s not an exceptionally good looking design. I don’t know, but they still do it, and that’s why I’m making a song about it. Continue reading “The Making of “Kill the Buffalo””
