Robby Reviews 2019
2019 is going to be a weird year for me to review because it was only like, 3 months long. That’s how it felt, at least. Whatever the case, if you haven’t been following me for a while, I do these yearly review things. Here I’ll give quick rundowns on my favorite movies, music, video games, and whatever else of the year. This year I’ll stick to what I liked and not what I didn’t. Okay. Let’s do this.
MUSIC
As far as new music goes, not much struck my fancy in 2019. Hanzel und Gretyl did put out Hexennacht just last month, and it was awesome. I’m going to post an in-depth review of that somewhere, so I won’t get too deep into it right now. But yeah, it was really good. It was a little less gloomy than the last couple releases, which I appreicate.
Devin Townsend put out Empath. It’s not my favorite thing he’s ever done, but it’s pretty special and good.
Jimmy Urine from Mindless Self Indulgence put out a solo album entitled and under the Euringer moniker. I liked that quite a bit.
MOVIES
I feel like I saw a ton of movies in 2019, probably because I did. I also feel like most of them were kind of bad, so I’m going to have to dig in my brain to remember the good ones. Let’s see…
Midsommar. From the mind that brought you and me Hereditary, we got Midsommar. I liked it a tad less than Midsommar, but I loved it. It’s a literally bright scary kind of movie. Wonderful stuff.
Joker was awesome. I could watch a million Batman-type movies with that kind of style. Even though I’d like to be, I’m not really into the cartoony, over-the-top silliness that is most Marvel movies. This hit just the right spot for me.
Going along with that, Brightburn. I read a little something about it randomly one day and went to see it in theaters the next. It’s not a great movie, but kind of like Joker, it’s a superhero movie that’s not a superhero movie. I’d like to see a sequel for sure.
VIDEO GAMES
2019 didn’t offer much in the way of AAA, but there were plenty of the smaller variety that kept me entertained. In no particular order…
Catherine: Full Body. I played through the original release on PS3 twice, I think, many moons ago. I was happy to play through this slightly revamped version. The new Rin character put me off at first just because they seemed a little shoehorned in. But how their story ended in my playthrough…yeah, I teared up. Whatever.
I had more fun with MLB The Show 19 more than the last few iterations that I’ve played. I’d probably enjoy it more if I smartened up and ever played as anyone besides the Marlins. Hm.
Oh yeah. Bloodstained finally came out in 2019. I think I liked it more than most people. It was definitely a slog to get the platinum trophy, but I did it.
I’ll give a shoutout to the Resident Evil 2 remake. I didn’t end up finishing it because I saved myself into not having enough ammo to really continue, and I didn’t feel like basically starting over. So I watched Dashie play it on YouTube instead.
ME
I released Modus Operandi in 2019. That was pretty fun considering I think of it as one of my least good albums. Traditionally, I’ve put out an album every year. One year will be an album of new music, and the next year will be an official release of an album I completed years ago. I’ve released all my old stuff at this point. So what’s coming in 2020? Stay tuned.
